            Shahrukh Khan was born on 2nd November 1965 in New Delhi. His father Taj Mohammed Khan was an Indian independence activist from Peshawar. His mother Lateef Fatima was the adopted daughter of Shah Nawaz Khan, a Major General in the Indian National Army. Shahrukh Khan's father came to New Delhi from Qissa Khawani Bazaar in Peshawar before the 1947 partition of India. His father died from cancer when Khan was 15 years old, and his mother died in 1990 after prolonged illness. Shahrukh Khan was very attached to his parents as a child and describes their early deaths as a turning point in his life and as his biggest motivation for hard work. He explained that his ideology in life is "... to make movies so damn bloody big ... that my parents somewhere sit down on a star and from there also can look at their son and say 'I can see his movies from here better than I can see the Wall of China or anything. We see his movies covering the face of this earth". Shahrukh Khan attended St. Columba's School where he was accomplished in sports, drama, and academics. He won the Sword of Honour, an annual award given to the student who best represents the spirit of the school. Khan later attended the Hansraj College in 1985 and earned his Bachelors degree in Economics. Shahrukh Khan pursued a Masters Degree in Mass Communications at Jamia Millia Islamia, he later opted out to pursue a career in bollywood. After the death of his mother Shahruk Khan moved to Mumbai in 1991. He married Gauri Chibber in a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony on 25 October 1991. According to Shahruk Khan while he strongly believes in Islam, he also values his wife's religion. At home, his children follow both religions, with the Quran being situated next to the Hindu deities. They have three children, son Aryan and daughter Suhana. In 2013 they became parents of a third child named AbRam via a surrogate mother. Shahrukh Khan started his career on television as Commando Abhimanyu Rai in Fauji. He instantly became the teenage heartthrob owing to dimpled smile. Then he went on to play a small part in Circus. Shahrukh made his entry into bollywood with Deewana in 1992. The movie was a hit and Shahrukh Khan bagged his first award, Filmfare Best Male Debut Award. Both, Baazigar and Darr in 1993 had Shahrukh Khan protraying a negative character of an obsessive lover. Both these movies got him critical acclamation and were instant successes. The biggest blockbuster of his career came with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in 1995. The movie is an all time success and is currently in its sixteenth year in Mumbai theatres. Shahrukh Khan also acted in Anjaam , Dil Se, Hey Ram, Swades and Paheli. Although these movies did not make it at the box-office, his role in the movies received recognition. Paheli in 2005 went on to become India’s official entry to the Academy Awards for consideration for Best Foreign Language Film. A close bond with Yash Chopra and Karan Johar, led to a series of hit success like Dil To Pagal Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Mohabbatein, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Veer-Zaara, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and Don starring him in the title role was a box-office success. In 2007 we saw Shahrukh Khan in a totally different role that of Kabir Khan, ex-Indian hockey team captain turned coach. The film was highly successful and brought crtical acclamation for Shahrukh Khan. Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om became the year’s highest grossing film in India and overseas. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi saw Shahrukh Khan romancing debutant actress Anushka Sharma and the film was a major box office success. My Name is Khan saw the hit combination of Karan Johar, Shahrukh Khan and Kajol. The film received tremendous success at home as well as abroad. In 1999, Shahrukh Khan set up his Dreamz Unlimited, a production company in collaboration with Juhi Chawla and Aziz Mirza. Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Asoka and Chalte Chalte were produced under this banner. In 2004, he set up another production company, Red Chillies Entertainment. Main Hoon Na, Paheli, Om Shanti Om and Billu were produced under this banner. The company also has a Visual Effect Studio, Red Chillies VFX.

            In 2008, Shahruk Khan in partnership with actress Juhi Chawla Mehta and her husband Jay Mehta acquired ownership rights for the franchise representing Kolkata in the Twenty20 cricket tournament Indian Premier League, for a price of $75.09 million, and has since named the team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The team was surrounded with controversy and poor on-field performance through the first three years of the tournament, however improved from the fourth season and they eventually became the IPL champions for the first time in 2012.
